Your Theatre your Shows

Bringing live performance and shows to Axbridge, Cheddar and the Polden Villages

Would you like to see some live performance and shows in your local village or town?

Seed has partnered with Take Art to offer a menu of theatre, spoken word, dance and other live arts events suited to small towns, villages and rural communities.

The Rural Touring scheme has been running in Somerset since 1987 and offers subsidised performances to make shows more affordable to see. Now Seed is supporting Take Art to bring shows to Sedgemoor  – we are particularly keen to find venues in the Polden Hills, Cheddar and Axbridge where residents have asked us for more theatre!

If you would like theatre, music, dance or spoken word brought in your village hall, pub, town hall or public space do get in contact – we can see if there is an act that fits the bill.

We want to enable the community to experience high quality theatre, music, dance or spoken word performances in their local areas, chosen by you and offered at an affordable price.

The Farmer and the Clown

Fri 22nd March | Axbridge First School

An old hard-working farmer lives alone. One day, a baby clown accidentally bounces off a passing circus train and is left in the middle of nowhere, separated from family and friends.

A little reluctantly at first, the farmer takes the clown in. As time passes, they discover that by being with each other they find something new in themselves.
Flibbertigibbet Theatre has adapted this charming picture book into a new wordless play for all ages.

The Farmer and The Clown is a story of unexpected friendship told through physical comedy, dance and performed with an original live soundtrack by Bristol music duo JOW.

Teatro Vivo: The Regulars

Mar 31st – Playing at Cabra, Cheddar

Have you ever wondered who might have nursed a pint at this table before you?
Who propped up the bar a decade ago? Or who stood in front of that fireplace telling tall tales 200 years back?
In Teatro Vivo’s show THE REGULARS of the past sit shoulder to shoulder with the pubgoers and bar staff of today.
Designed specifically for performance in pubs, it is a celebration of the outlandish, sometimes incredible stories you hear over a pint.
Pull up that stool, lean in close, and as the drinks flow you might start to wonder how blurred the lines are between fact and fiction.

How The Rural Touring Scheme Works

How to bring theatre to your village hall or public space

  • All you need is an enthusiastic group of people who would be interested in seeing local theatre
  • One person willing to be the named promoter / contact
  • A venue space in your locality (venues range from huts to village halls, from community centres to churches, you might want to use the village green, the school or the local arts centre)

What do you do next?

Talk to committee members, friends in your village etc. Take a look at the booking menu to see what’s on offer. Decide on the type of shows your community might like and suggest a venue. It is useful if you can complete and return a  Booking Request Form to Danny at Take Art.

Danny will call you to discuss your choices and  possible dates.
