To celebrate the Bridgwater legend Joe Strummer. Members of the Guitar and Bass Group created a pop-up performance on the Streets of Bridgwater. The event marks International Clash Day and aims to raise awareness of Joe’s links with rebel town Bridgwater – “A Clash Town”. Local players brought their guitars, basses and voices to play Clash songs at various pop-up locations across Bridgwater town centre on 4 Feb 2023. Some of the audience passing by knew the Clash well, others did not, some knew and recalled Joe Strummer personally. It is through this Clash connection that Bridgwater is linked with Seattle, home of Radio Station KEXP who host International Clash Day each February.
Film crew from Somerset Film recorded the performance as did students from Bridgwater College’s Media department. The videos are all available to view and share below.
KEXP DJ Kevin Cole said of the event “Very cool. Looks like it was a ton of fun. I’ll mention in my ICD show recap tomorrow”.
Cllr Brian Smedley said “Bridgwater is a Clash Town. Its exactly what Bridgwater is about – creative, alternative, radical music in a working class town”.
