Creative lives under lockdown

Creative Lives Under Lockdown

Creative Lives Under Lockdown is now Live!

Seed, the Arts Council England funded Creative People and Places project for Sedgemoor, has commissioned five local artists to develop creative activities that will engage, support and creatively connect people in Sedgemoor during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Joyful Noises
What do you think about the Thursday night noise making? Fun? Rude? Bizarre? Whatever your thoughts, we’d love to hear them!

Joyful Noises has been documenting the Thursday night ‘clap for carers’ celebrations and will create a wonderfully noisy time capsule from this unique period of time.

Were you on your doorstep making some noise and applauding our carers and key workers? did your neighbours? If you work in the NHS or are a key worker how did the Thursday ‘Clap for Carers’ make you feel?

If you had recently been spending your Thursday nights enthusiastically bashing saucepans, honking horns or cheering in a rawcus yet friendly manner, then Joyful Nosies want to hear from you!

Regardless of what technology you have access too, we’d love for you to get involved by sending us little snippets of the noise’s that were made. Be this in the form of video, photography, audio or written accounts.

Moments of Stillness
Use your phone to capture and share a moment of stillness

Can you take a moment to stop? Take notice? Listen? And hear what is going on around you during your daily exercise? Or maybe take a moment in your garden? Or on the way to the shops?

Highbridge-based artists Leila Browning and Nadja Mcdevitt are inviting locals to film and share those precious moments of stillness we find in our Covid-19 affected worlds.

Participants are asked to film in landscape orientation and keep to the current government guidelines staying 2m apart. Please do not include people in your videos. The artists a will collate material and create a short film for everyone to enjoy.

creative ISOLATION
Let’s get making and creating, bringing more creativity into your home with live tutorials

Weston-Super-Mare artist Bev G Star is distributing 150 creativity packs to homes during lockdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Creative Isolation will share creative materials to encourage the community to get making, doing, shaping, cutting, sticking and engaging with the online community through live tutorials and support.

Would you like to use nature to make something, such as leaves, bark and flowers to create a picture? Learn how to draw a mandala and use this for meditation? Learn some basic knots to make a plant hanger? Scrapbooking? Designing and making your own dreamcatcher? Festival head bands and card making?

Creative Isolation is offering 8 live tutorials to support the creativity packs, these are being delivered by Somerset County Council, Community Council for Somerset, Sedgemoor District Council who have been supporting the communities delivering essential items during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants are asked to be vigilant as the creativity packs contain small parts and sharp objects.

Sketchbooks Unlocked
Ever wanted to fill a sketchbook but don’t know where to start? The secrets are revealed inside…

Cheddar based company The Cheddar Arts Quarter CIC invites you to unlock your creative potential with the Sketchbooks unlocked project.

Participants are asked to fill their Sketchbooks and then return them to The Arts Quarter where they will be added to the digital collection alongside all the work of the Lockdown Challenge. Once the lockdown ends the sketchbooks will be exhibited in the Gallery space for visitors to see, and finally, stored in the Sketchbook library where they can be revisited again and again as a record of this time in the community.

Sketchbooks Unlocked is open to everyone regardless of whether they’ve taken part in the Lockdown Challenge. Anyone can get involved of all ages and abilities, whether professional artists or complete beginners. Sketchbooks Unlocked is being promoted across Sedgemoor through social media and community networks and the books will be available to buy online and at the CAQ itself where the shop and Gallery space re-opens on 19th June.
