Artist Professional Development

Creative Professional Development for artists/creative practitioners who would like to develop new work with communities led by artist & educator Rachel Dobbs.

Are you an artist or creative practitioner who’d like to develop new work with (and in) communities? We want to hear from artists who work in (or are curious about working in) socially engaged and participatory art practice in Somerset, particularly Sedgemoor, and neighbouring counties.

Join our online facilitated session, led by artist & educator Rachel Dobbs, to think through some of the possibilities of working collaboratively in community contexts to make new, ambitious art projects, and how it might suit you, your interests and your arts practice. We’ll be looking at hot topics like:

“What is socially engaged art practice, anyway?”

“What is the landscape for socially engaged arts practice?”

“What’s it like to work with a community as an artist?”

“How can we improve our skills, opportunities for income & have more time to make art?”

Social Arts Practice & Me will also be a great opportunity to meet, Seed Sedgemoor and to hear about the Arts Council England funded Creative People and Places project being delivering across Sedgemoor.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an active workshop discussion session. As a participant, we’ll ask you to use your camera & microphone throughout, and we’ll be asking you to contribute throughout the session and there will be parts of the session that happen in smaller Breakout rooms (for 1-to-1 discussions & tasks).

We’ll also be using and typing into shared Google Docs during the session to share information & complete tasks, so you may find it easiest to use a device with a keyboard (eg desktop computer, laptop, Chromebook, tablet) rather than a smartphone to access the session.

Because we know Zoom can be pretty tiring, across the 3 hour session we’ll have scheduled screen breaks so you can make a cup of tea, move around & take a break.

Target audience:

Artists & creative practitioners who are thinking about working in & with community contexts for the first time.

Artists & creative practitioners who want to learn more about socially engaged art practice.

Artists & creative practitioners who already have experience of working in community contexts and would like to meet others & find out about new opportunities to work in this way with Seed Sedgemoor .

CREATIVE LIVES UNDER LOCKDOWN

Micro-commission for artists and facilitators

Expressions of Interest for Creative Arts Micro-commission during C19 lockdown

We are seeking expressions of interest from artists and arts facilitators to develop and deliver activities or small collaborative artworks which will engage, support and creatively connect people in Sedgemoor during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Seed is interested in commissioning artists to develop and deliver activities that can help to address this. We are calling for expressions of interest via a two-stage process. Stage one is to provide a 1-2 page outline of your idea. The most promising ideas will be commissioned to undertake a research and development (R&D) stage. We will provide £400 as a fee for these ideas to be developed into a full proposal which will be due one week later. The best Stage 2 proposals will be funded for delivery.  Depending on the number and scope of each proposal a further figure between £600 and £1500 might be available for each commission.
